Project Goals

The BARMIG project will shed light on constraints, opportunities and challenges for industrial relations actors stemming from the increased presence of migrant workers in the CEE countries (e.g., opportunity for the policy influence – migration policy, opportunity to represent migrants’ interests, opportunity for employers’ cooperation regarding migrant workers as a flexible pool of labour force, relevant on a tight labour markets, the role of the state, unions and employers in securing equal rights for migrant workers, etc.) especially in relation to migrant workers from Eastern countries neighbouring the EU. A major issue is whether unions can use collective regulation so as to regulate or even attempt to represent non local workers.
